You wait for as long as possible but your dream of having long nails remain a dream every time.

Getting long nails to seem like an impossible task?

Getting your nails to the point you wish for before they break off is easier said than done. The reality is that they chip and break very easily and the only option you have left is to trim them. And so you see your efforts of growing them out failing miserably every time you try. That’s a sad affair but not a strong enough reason to give up! You haven’t tried everything just yet because you aren’t aware. So before we fill up your brain with nail growth tips, let’s understand why your nails don’t grow as fast as they should.

Why are your nails not growing?

There are many reasons behind your nails not growing and a major few are mentioned below:

  1. Biting your nails isn’t good!

If you are someone who bites their nails then you definitely should stop it now. This habit leads to multiple bacterial infections that slow down the growth of the skin and nails in that area.

  1. Base coat is a must

If you skip your base coat before applying polish, then you are missing a major protective layer that prevents your nail polish from ruining your nails. Don’t forget to apply it.

  1. Chip Off Your Nail Polish

Women usually chip off their nail polish instead of using nail polish remover. That is something unacceptable. When you chip off nail polish, you’re most likely peeling off the topmost layer of your nail. This will lead to weak and brittle nails.

  1. Poor quality nail colours

We often end up buying nail polish colours because they are cheap but what we fail to do is check whether their formula is healthy enough for our nails. It is so important to use a polish that is nail-friendly.

There are so many other reasons too but the main aim to highlight the major reasons was to make you understand where you are going wrong and what things or acts can be prevented in order to maintain healthy nails.

Now over to nail growth tips that will help you sport strong and healthy nails in no time:

  1. Lemon Juice

Lemons are rich in Vitamin C. This vitamin encourages the healthy growth of nails. Lemons also act as bleaching agents and work great in removing yellow nail stains. There are two ways in which you can use lemon juice to protect your long nails.

Take a bowl and mix 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Heat the solution for a maximum of 20 seconds and then soak your nails in the solution for 10 minutes. Do this every day and see the difference.

Another easy method is to rub a slice of lemon on your nails for about five minutes every day and then wash off your nails with warm water.

  1. Orange Juice

Just like lemon, the Vitamin C in orange juice can help in the production of collagen that keeps your nails strong and healthy and helps them grow faster.

Soak your nails in the squeezed orange juice for about 10 minutes and wash your nails after that. Don’t forget to moisturize them properly on a daily basis.

  1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is rich in nutrients that provide moisture for your nails and hydrate the skin around the nails thus encouraging growth.

Massage your nails and fingers with some extra warm virgin coconut oil. Make sure to massage in circular motions for better results. This will help in the circulation of blood, which will promote nail growth. Do this every night before you go to bed.

  1. Olive Oil

Olive oil is rich in Vitamin E which is essential in keeping the nails nourished and hydrated for a long. Vitamin E also increases blood circulation in nails and encourages nail growth.

Heat up some olive oil and massage it into your nails and cuticles for about five. You can also choose to soak your nails in warm olive oil for fifteen to twenty minutes once a day.

  1. Maintain your cuticles

Always remember that healthy cuticles are equal to having healthy nails. Cuticles are like a seal or a barrier that prevents any infection from entering your nails. Nail cutting often leads to cutting of the cuticles which can be very harmful to your nails. To avoid it push them back gently instead of trimming and losing the barrier.

  1. Avoid nail hardeners.

Nail hardeners do more damage than good. They often cause nails to become so hard that they crack and break more easily. Try to eradicate them completely from your life.

  1. Moisturize everyday

Your dry hands are a major reason behind your weak and unhealthy nails. Treat your nails the same way you treat your face and moisturize your hands and feet daily.

  1. File like a pro

Use a fine-grit file while shaping your nails. Start on the outside edge, and pull toward the centre—then continue to gently swipe across your nail in that one direction. Don’t move the file back and forth, which creates too much friction and gives you frayed edges.

  1. Use a ridge filler

If you are not into a base coat, ridge filler can be used to give your nails a new life. Apply one coat of a nice Ridge Filler onto each nail to make nails look smooth and clean.

  1. Maintain a balanced diet.

Just as with your skin and hair your nails are also dependent on what you eat. Increased proteins, Biotin, zinc and iron in your diet can help get you strong and long nails in no time.
